Easy Generator
This generator turned out to be so easy to put together…and it was so to start…and with the handle even my wife can move it around. I have used it to run a couple of plugs to it just to see if it worked ( lol rookie ) and it was great. I really bought it to hook it directly to my house because of where I live is prone to hurricanes. That is the only thing I haven’t tested yet, but as well as it worked as a straight generator it should work like a champ!!! Extremely happy with this product. Would recommend!!

Power house machine
I bought this generator right after the Beryl hurricane and after receiving it and putting it into use immediately my entire 1682 sq house was lit. I could run my air condition unit too but I did not. This is a valuable, long term purchase. It is just right for my house in terms of power supply. Going forward i can now relax and be ready for the next outage. Westinghouse Thank you for creating this piece of equipment the only thing im asking is that you start working on building silent running generators which i know is in the near future.

Whole house power
This generator is great. Easy assembly right out of the box that took 10 minutes. Starts right up and keeps on going. I have a 2200 Sq. Ft. home with central AC and this unit powers everything, including the AC. I did my homework, and this is the unit to buy if you want whole house power, or anything in between. The unit is well built and easy to maneuver to any area. I am hoping to never have to use this generator, but when I do, I know that it will perform at the highest level, and I will not be without power.

Worked great after hurricane beryl hit Houston
We purchased this 12,500 watt generator just in time. It was delivered on the 3rd of July and the hurricane hit on the 5th.There are a couple of issues that were difficult for me. First assembling the wheels on the axle. I couldn’t get the bolt through the frame so I went to the hardware store and bought new bolts and nuts. Second I didn’t know to flip the main circuit breaker switch on to power up the appliances. These issues were user errors not manufacture errors. We were stressed and hurriedly assembled this product before the storm. We are very satisfied with this product and would buy another one.

Great Generator
This is a great generator. I have not used but my friends had this generator during the latest hurricane in Houston and it powered their large 2 story home for a week so I know it will take care of my home which is smaller. This is a popular generator as it has been out of stock in most places. I finally received it this week. We unpacked and started it up and it works great. Now ready for the next storm although praying it will not be any time too soon Recommend

Easy to use – easy to start
Set up was easy. You will need to turn it on the side to attach the legs and wheels.Following instructions, we went step by step and it started up right away when we pushed the button. The remote was linked to the unit and that worked great as well. After Hurricane Beryl, we needed a larger generator to power up more areas in the house. It is great that we have the option to connect with a 50AMP cord to achieve more power without running extension cords all over the house – which can be a trip hazard.

So far so good!
Got this as a quick whole house backup generator, specifically to run my well pump as well as other utilities like fridge and freezer during outages.Shipped immediately, arrived early- which was a little surprising- and in good shape. Put the wheels and stands on, added oil and fuel, fired right up.Working on breaking it in and doing trial runs. So far, everything looks to be in order and happy about this decision. I looked at all the options and feel like this has the best balance of price and quality for what I need.

Easy start if you turn on the fuel valve
The generator does exactly what it is supposed to. It was easier than expected to put on the wheels and legs. Once it was filled with oil (which it came with) and gas (or propane) and the fuel valve turned on – it started first try. The remote start is awesome and I am grateful for it. The power level is high and I am looking forward to seeing what ti can do when fully loaded. We are on the break-in period so 6000W is the highest for now. It only has to run 5 hours during break-in.

Great Portable Dual Fuel Generator!
I was very pleased with the way the generator was built so everything is easy access. It allows you to use a pull start, remote start, or just flip a switch from the generator control panel. There are ample outlets, including 30 amp & 50 amp connections. It comes with a battery that is easy to connect. The wheels are solid. Switch from gasoline to propane with the dial on the control panel. Westinghouse put a lot of thought into designing this generator and I am very happy we chose this one over the competition.

Unbox and Power Up
This is hands down the easiest generator I’ve ever operated.I unboxed this generator the day it arrived. I didn’t want to run to the gas station to fill it with ethanol free gas so I plugged my grills propane into it. The generator battery was delivered charged so I was able to plug in the quick connects, flip the switch, plug in the generator using the gas regulator hose (that came with it), pushed the start remote on the keychain, and it started right up. We just filled it with gas and took it to a food truck event. Everything operated so easily with no surges. This generator does exactly what you need it to. There have been a lot of complaints about the switch failing after being exposed to water and it seems like the listened. They replaced the old switch with a new waterproof switch and even though I haven’t left it in the rain, I’m really happy to see that they are constantly improving their products. I would recommend this 100%.

Very Pleased So Far
It took a long time (32 days) and numerous phone calls to Amazon to get this generator delivered, but so far I am very pleased with it. Westinghouse makes it easy on the user by providing everything you need to get started, including oil and a funnel. All you have to provide is the fuel. I love the dual fuel feature, which could be useful after a storm event when gasoline can be hard to get. Plus, propane stays fresh and useable longer than gasoline, so you can store it longer before using it. I had some propane when the generator arrived, so that is all I have used so far. I am still in the break-in period, and have not yet connected the generator to my house through my transfer switch. I am anxious to see how well it powers the higher-wattage-consuming items. I also like the remote control feature, which will allow me to start and stop the generator from a dry place if it is raining.

Great Purchase for the shop and home!
Packaged well. Easy assembly and set up right out of the box. Startup instructions on the top are all you need to get up and running. Remote start worked great! Runs smooth as can be with no adjustments needed. Haven’t had it under a load yet but so far so good I’d say. Bought this to run my custom bike shop equipment out of the garage where power supply was very limited and also double as an emergency backup for the house. NC tends to be a favorite of hurricanes that like to knock out our power from time to time. I think I can run everything I need as much as I need, especially with the dual fuel capability it has.

This is a powerful generator
This Westinghouse generator is very well-made and extremely powerful. It is Running my central air conditioner my well pump, microwave, refrigerator, televisions and other small appliances. I had my hot water heater off and my electric stove off. I could shut off the AC and probably run the electric stove but for now we’ll just cook on our outdoor grill. I can trun off the a/c and heat up water for showers. Most people do not know Westinghouse is the manufacturer of the large generators at dams and other locations. And I will say they know how to manufacture a portable generator. I highly recommend the Westinghouse generator and I believe it’s the best generator you can buy on the market today.

A solid selection
recently purchased this from Amazon after borrowing a similar unit from a friend during Hurricane Beryl. I was thoroughly impressed with how well it performed and how straightforward it was to operate. Given that positive experience, I decided to get one for myself. The delivery took a bit longer than expected—arriving a few days behind schedule—but it was in excellent condition when it finally arrived. The unboxing process was simple, and setting it up was fairly straightforward. However, I do want to note that the generator is quite heavy, so it’s definitely a good idea to have someone help you with the setup.Currently, I’ve got it stored in the garage while I arrange for an electrician to connect it to my electrical box. Based on my initial impressions, I’m confident that this generator will meet my needs, especially considering its performance during the hurricane.Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase. If you’re looking for a reliable generator that’s easy to operate, this model is a solid choice.

Easy-peasy as generators go
After Hurricane Beryl left us without power in hot summer weather for 8 long days, I finally decided to get a generator. I spoke to a friend that was running almost his whole house for days on this unit using propane. Propane is apparently easy to refill at a KOA down the road on the island, so my friend and I each ordered one of these and it was delivered in less than a week. I was able to easily tip it and put on the wheels and feet and charge the battery, add the oil, and give it a test. Ran smoothly with no issues whatsoever. Our friendly electrician has now added an inlet so we can switch off our house breakers for things we don’t want to run and switch the rest over to generator power. I am glad to have this, and while I don’t want any hurricanes this year, we now know we are at risk for power outages in the cold as well thanks to the shakiness of the Texas electricity grid and the power infrastrucure that has been poorly maintained by our local provider for line and pole maintenance. We all got an email that they plan to replace 1000 poles and do a lot more repairs in our area in the next couple of weeks, so I expect we will get an outage to test this soon.

Great price, great product
Bought this as a backup power source for our home. 3000sqft house, no AC, well, sump pump, boiler, frig, 2 freezers, and a 1400sqft shop. The 9500 watts covers most everything needed except maybe the dryer and the welders. Don’t plan on using those routinely while on backup power. The generator is well laid out, easy to do the last few things to get it ready for use, and fired right up. Photo shows it with a small bottle of propane for the test run, but the plan is to tap into the 1000g propane tank on the property. You might see reviews that complain about the location of the 50amp outlet above the wheel, somewhat blocking the cord. Westinghouse has moved that inboard now. No issues with clearing the 50amp cord.

Bought for hurricane season and work
I bought this generator to replace my old/ outdated 15 year old generator. This new generator is much lighter in weight compared to the old one. The weight difference is noticeable as soon as you lift the handle to move it.The old was a 9,000 run and 10,000 peak with a 19hp engine. The new one is a 9,000 run and 12,500 peak with a 30hp engine. Even though the newer generator has a larger horsepower engine, it is much quieter than the old one by a considerable difference! The touch start and the remote start are both nice features but, the ol’ pull start is there for back up (I wouldn’t buy one without it).Although I haven’t used it for a hurricane yet, I have used it to power my welding machine and it performs far better than the old one and will run for a solid 12 hours on a full tank. This generator also has a 30amp and 50 amp hookup on it. Overall, if your looking for a reliable generator that performs well without breaking the bank, I’d recommend this one.

Westinghouse WGen9500DF is the Perfect Generator for Power Outages and More
This generator was easy to prepare for use. Instructions are very clear with illustrations. The only assembly was attaching the wheels and shock absorbing feet. After connecting the quick-connect battery plug, adding oil, and gasoline, it was ready for an initial test. One pull on the recoil starter and it was ready for duty. Additilonally, the push button start and the remote start fob were tested successfully. We also successfully tested the dual fuel capability using Propane. After attaching the transfer switch cord, we tested varying load combinations successfully. We did not test with the central a/c. Per our emergency plan, we tested a window unit and two refrigator/freezers successfully along with phone chargers, several lights, internet, and TVs.My neighbors did not realize the generator was running until I asked if it was disturbing them.Shutdowns are just as easy as pushing the Start/Stop button for at least one second.Relocation and storage is easy with the foldable handle. Obviously, storage preparation is dependent on the situation. The manual contains specific instructions for each.We recommend this genertor for use during power outages, specifically during hurricanes and severe storms. It can also be used as a power supply during family events at remote sites.

A powerful user-friendly generator
I bought this generator to provide back up power for my elderly mother who lives in Florida. I wanted something powerful enough to provide their power needs for multiple days of hurricane-related power outages, but also user friendly enough for an 80+ year old, not terribly handy or strong, woman to be able to handle on her own. I did the initial set up for her but now that that’s done, I’m confident she’ll be able to handle it on her own, especially thanks to the easy push button start and the very convenient key-fob remote start. So far it’s started easily and quickly every time with just a push of a button.

Got 2x of them – keep it DRY though
60mph wind, severe thunderstorm hit us, trees down (lost 2 Apple, 1 Peach, and a bunch of branches down). Power company said 9hrs before restoration. Living in the country can be really, really, really quiet – when the power goes out! This time, we were ready, including LP & Gas.The day AFTER I’d just put the 2nd unit together, and test ran/break in (LPG 5lb) it for 3hrs, on 2x 8000BTU window unit AC. So, 7hrs later, of running the entire house …. 2 8000btu ACs, 1 5000btu AC, 2x 21cu ft freezers, 2 fridges, 1 1/2hp well pump, lights…. on 5gal Gasoline, it got a serious work out in 95 degree heat.Pros – it does the job, cheaper and more reliable than other generators, just keep it DRY.Runs great on Propane, which is pretty fool-proof for standby, and it can be switched over to gasoline for those long extended runs. Relatively quiet, a plus. If a sound barrier was put around it (open on top), it would probably be very quiet – by comparison, my neighbor 1/2mi away, with his 20kw Generac, well… we hear it start & stop, accross the valley, through the woods, so nothing is really silent in living in the country, is it? It does not have sensitive electronics build into it, like an inverter generator has. This is made for Job/construction sites, it is rugged.Cons – the start/stop switch is susceptible to moisture. Do NOT leave this unit outside, where it could be rained on. Moisture gets in this switch, and it fails. The way to tell it’s failed, when flipped to the ON position, nothing lights up (like it’s ready to start), leaving you to believe the battery is dead. Fortunately, Westinghouse is quick to send a complete switch & wiring harness, with a waterproof cover over the switch. We got a 45′ 6awg, 4 conductor, SO cord, put plugs on it and hooked it directly into the old transfer switch (vintage 1970s), which is coiled up, ready to extend and plug into the generator, where ever put it.We also have 2x 40lb LPG tanks, it drained them dry over 3 days, and then we switched to gasoline for the rest of a previous outage. After that extended outage was over, +50hrs, we drained the oil (break-in was done), and replaced it with a non-detergent SAE 30 + MotorKote (friction reducer). The Manual is clear, THD (total harmonic distortion of the SINE wave is (<23%) which sounds horrible, but... everything ran fine, nothing died, and the important thing, the frequency (set by engine speed) is pretty stable, which really matters to sensitive stuff. None of our computers/work stations, 2 file servers, electronics got smoked, absolutely no issues. We're happy with it. Manual also says maximum operating temperature is 104f ... I'm guessing that's ambient temperature. For the price, we now have 2 of them for better reliability. Do NOT store these outside, uncovered, the rain gets into the little on/off switch and it'll fail. I've already replaced the switch from the one we bought last summer, Westinghouse was -easy- to work with, shipped it right out, 3 days later, I replaced it (a bit of a pain).

Started right up
Said it was temporarily unavailable when I ordered but got a shipped notice 3 days later. Easy enough to set up. Didn’t have any gas but I did have a propane tank, hooked it up and it started immediately first try. The only issue I have is with the User Manual, in the section about the Break-in Period it says to make sure the ECO mode switch is in the Off position however nowhere else in the manual does it show or mention the ECO switch nor can I find one on the generator itself. Also the manual talks about the Overload light but that doesn’t show in any of the diagrams nor can I find it on the generator. I haven’t run an extended break-in yet, once I do if there are any issues I will update.

Easy Assembly, set up and use.
I ordered this generator after Hurricane Beryl his Houston. I was caught off guard and was without power for a short time. I don’t intend to let that happen again. I’d seen this generator several months prior, but was waiting for the right time. Prime Day hit and it was discounted, so I ordered it.The delivery was easy, as it was actually placed inside my home. Assembly was easy and took just a few minutes, connecting the battery and adding oil (that was included) took just a few minutes. The only thing this generator needed was gas. Starting the generator was easy as well, just can’t imagine it being much easier. Providing multiple power options.I recommend this generator for anyone that wants or needs power back up.

Clearly Great Quality
The only assembly required was the wheels and feet. No shipping bar to remove or handles, etc. You can tell this is great quality right out of the box, I mean they even added a screw on cover for the propane inlet that stays with the unit, no losing it and getting insects inside while storing. Quick connect cable for the battery, and even a battery charger with the input jack for it right on the panel. Really well designed for ease of use. Ran it for 1 hour immediately after putting together, because I had issue previously with another brand. Volume is acceptable definitely quieter than a lot of brands. The auto choke on start is awesome, if you’ve had to deal with the choke using propane on a DuroMax and the pain that is you will definitely appreciate this feature. Starts right up and the choke slides from on to off automatically. Love this thing so far.

Well built portable generator
Bought this generator for our home in SC. It came with clear instructions and was easy to set-up. This generator is well built and designed. Very sturdy. Fire-up on first attempt. Love the remote start, dual fuel, low-oil shut-off and easy to use control panel. Relatively quiet. I have a 50 amp manual transfer switch on my electrical panel for this generator. I have not yet had to use it during a power outage. I am confident that this generator will work as advertised. I highly recommend it.

Propane will last forever fossel fuels will go bad in a year
Comparing Westinghouse to DuraMax and Generac the features are same for top rating generators, I went with a Westinghouse 12500 watt for a few reasons, they have been around for a long time, for the price of $1,034.00 you cant beat it for the 12500 watt dual generator gas/propane. I have a Miller gas generator/ welder with 11,000 watts and this runs my 2700sq home, the only proplem with gas it looses its octane & ends up going bad, having a 500 gallon propane tank I will not have to keep gasoline in storage.

Easy set up
It is important to know that you will need some electrical experience to hook this up to your meter box. Luckily, we had my brother! You will need a 50 amp RV extension cord, a generator interlock kit, and a 60 amp double pole circuit breaker. Once all of these items arrived, my brother had it hooked up in under an hour. It looks great. I can’t say how well it works, because we also need oil and propane to start it. I will update this review once we have had a chance to use it.

POWERFUL DEPENDABLE
We received our Generator intact and very timely. The delivery company that they used were very professional and they placed it exactly where we need it. The Generator is very easy to move around, the handle is very sturdy. The Wheels are sturdy and strong. Overall, from sight it’s a very good Generator. We had an electrician come install a wall plug connector so when needed, we can just plug in a cord and flip a switch and our house will be back up and running with little down time. Our electrician tested it and when I tell you it powered up 90% of our house, that is AMAZING. I pray we never have to use it, but in the event, we do, we can breathe easier knowing we are very well protected.

Works great. Easy Start. Handles the load
Item arrived all in excellent condition. All packed as new. It was easy to assemble, as all instructions were given.Started on second try and runs smoothly. The remote start key fob was already paired for simple and fast operation. For me, it will run all my sump pumps and furnace without issue. Needed the 50W connections and enough power and this does the trick. Great power unit for my house to prevent any basement flooding due to outages, food going bad, as well as keep us comfortable. Eases the worry of any prolonged outages.

Great product! Incredibly easy to set up. Works like a charm. I could not be happier. The remote start is pretty awesome as well. The instructions could have been a little more clear, especially with regards to recharging the battery. However, they’re not bad and you can find any of the information missing online pretty easily. As far as product goes, I give it five stars. If you have trouble finding instructions on the trickle charger. Just plug it in to the port and the light on the charger will turn green once its ready.

Impressive Quality, Great Price
We did a lot of research, and I do mean A LOT, before deciding to purchase the Westinghouse 12500 Watt Duel Fuel Generator; and we couldn’t be more pleased. Delivery was super fast and was handled with care. The generator was very securely packaged, and easy to unpack. After unpacking, the directions for assembly were clear and easy. Within a very short time, we were hooked up and tried it out. Both the push button start and the remote fob worked flawlessly. Will be so nice on a cold winter day to start up from inside. Overall thoughts, well designed, easy assembly, quick start and very portable. Well done, Westinghouse!

Plenty of power, easy operation
I purchased the Westinghouse WGen9500DF based primarily on the reviews, and on the fact that I wanted a true “dual fuel” generator, though my plan is to never put gas in it, but to run it on propane exclusively.Ordered from amazon my generator came quickly, packaging was excellent and it was in perfect condition upon arrival. I had a manual transfer switch and exterior plug in port installed To make it simple to switch over to generator power. I find this method is roughly eighty percent cheaper than going for a whole house system. No it’s not as convenient but, It saves a fortune, and if you need to take your generator elsewhere you can.The directions are excellent. There’s a lot of documentation included with this generator and it does a fine job a detailing all of the safety recommendations and features of this generator. I paid close attention to all of this documentation as I ran the generator through its break in period. While my usage of this generator is not extensive at this point I feel extremely comfortable that when the time arises and it is called into action both the generator and I will be ready to meet the task.A few other notes. The remote start is excellent. Being able to start and stop the is a nice touch. If you’re like me , you’ll be using an on/off cycle to keep things charged, cool, warm and dry. The remote will make that much easier. Further the trickle battery charger ensures that the generator is always at the ready. I will update this review when the time comes and i’ve had a more extensive history with it. But as of this time i’m extremely pleased and feel extremely prepared. This is a great powerful unit, sold at a reasonable That gives the user excellent value for the money. Five stars!

Unparalleled features, performance, and value
I purchased this generator after Hurricane Beryl rocked Houston and caused a massive power grid failure for millions of people. My family was without electricity for a week during a deadly heat wave. I did plenty of research on reducing the impact of future natural disasters and decided this Westinghouse 9500DF was the best option for our home. The 9500DF can run with either standard gasoline or with an external propane tank, and you can even switch between the two seamlessly while the motor is running. This is important to me since gasoline was unavailable in the community for several days during the recent power crisis. The generator can use 10W-30 oil like in most home generators or 5W-30 (synthetic). 10W-40 is also usable throughout the warmer months.I was surprised by how quietly the generator runs. Even typical generators with half the power output can be deafeningly loud, but this Westinghouse is much more tame. It’s also surprisingly compact at just over two feet long and is light enough to be pulled across the lawn. The reliability of this machine is superb. The maintenance schedule calls for very sparing service and a 3-year warranty is included for replacement parts. A digital run timer is included in the built-in 7-segment display. It runs cleanly, without rough parts, and does not foul spark plugs. All the features Westinghouse advertises work perfectly. It is more than powerful enough for various home appliances and air conditioning. I would certainly recommend this generator over other brands at the same price point.

Impressive Performance
UpdateI said I would update this if something went wrong, but I later decided I had more to say. Overall, I am very impressed with this generator. I completed installing a 50 amp input box running 6 gauge wire to an interlock kit in my service panel with a 50 amp circuit breaker. After the installation, I started up the generator on propane and tested it out for a couple of hours. It really exceeded my expectations. I ran the AC, a refrigerator, a deep freezer and a microwave at the same time, along with all the regular lights and such. The generator only changed pitch when the AC kicked on, as one would expect, but otherwise ran smoothly, seemingly unaffected by each additional load. I turned on every breaker in the house (though not every item, of course) except for the electric dryer and the car charger. I don’t expect we’d really need a dryer so I’m not worried about that one way or the other, and the Volt can run on gas if it needs to. I probably wouldn’t charge it from the generator because it would be less efficient than just running the gas engine. Anyway, I couldn’t be more pleased with how it handled providing everything I would need in another power outage.Others have pretty throughly covered the details of this product, so I don’t repeat those, but there is one thing I do feel is worth noting. The generator comes with the neutral and ground bonded. This is exactly what you would want if you are running it on a job site and plugging extension cords into the outlets. However, for feeding it into the service panel of my house (where the main panel is already bonded), I needed to follow the instructions on pages 15-16 to unbond the neutral and ground in the generator. The thing is that the manual is particularly unhelpful in telling you whether or not you need to do that. It more or less says, ‘do this if your electrician tells you to.’ It seems to me that this could make that vague, short section easy to overlook, so please pay attention to your specific installation. You may need to do nothing, you may need to unbond it as I did, or you may need to ground it with a rod, depending on how you are using it. There are lots of web sites and YouTube videos that explain why you would choose one for your situation, and it’s easy to understand which you need and to unbond it if you need to. However, don’t let the lack of emphasis on this in the manual make you think it’s not important. It is a safety issue and is very important, so be sure you make a conscious decision about it.Overall, I am very happy with this choice of generator. While I could have gotten by with the next size down by limiting what I would run on it, it is comforting to know that I can keep the entire house running the next time we lose power.OriginalThis is a short-term review because I’ve only had this for a few days. Still, I’ve used it enough to note some pros and cons. The unit arrived in a damaged box that had been patched up by someone along the way. Good for them, because they really did restore the integrity of the box and prevented the possibility of damage to the unit. There was a scrape where the box damage was, but not enough to worry about. One other problem was that the cap over the LPG intake had been torn off of its keeper cord. Given the weight of the item, this isn’t bad.Opening the box, the assembly was easy (other than turning the heavy generator on its side). The instructions were clear and everything went as expected. Once the oil was added and the propane attached, I started it up. It was disconcerting that it backfired on the first start, but it hasn’t done that since. I ran it only on propane (which is how I intend to run it) It ran smoothly and easily handled the load I put on it. I didn’t stress if because of the break-in period, but I ran some items of different sizes and it handled everything easily. The largest thing I checked it out on is an electric induction range and oven and it hardly noticed when I turned it on.The features of the generator are excellent. I really like the remote start button and the covers over the outlets. It is really solidly built, yet it is smooth and easy to move. The folding handle gets out of your way when you don’t need it and it rock solid when you do.This will be an emergency generator for our home, and I will be using the 50 amp outlet plugged into a Reliance 50 amp input box. I don’t have my interlock kit installed yet, so I haven’t tested it on multiple loads, but I’ll do that next week and add to the review if anything problematic arises. Overall, this looks like a solid product that will easily meet my needs.

Life saver
Living in the Houston area, we recently experienced a hurricane and power outage that lasted for days. My husband and I decided it’s finally time to get a generator. After much research him on the internet and me on social media, we finally found this generator. It is the perfect size to run what we need in our 2000 square foot home. We’ve had an electrician fix the electric box on our home and we were waiting knowing there will be another storm. Well luckily, we had it all set up just in time as we received notice from our electric company that they would be doing some needed maintenance and our area’s power would be off for a few hours. We were able to immediately turn on the generator and it worked fantastically. It powered everything we needed and we were able to sleep comfortably knowing in the morning we weren’t going to have to throw away food from the fridge and freezer and we weren’t going to be sweating in the texas heat. Our lights worked. Our water well continued pumping. Both of our claps worked throughout the night. Ours daughters hospital bed continued to work and her wheelchair was charged in the morning. It was easy peasy to continue our comfort.Once ordered, the generator arrived quickly. The prices for the size is amazing. Assembly was quick. The ease of moving it and getting it plugged to the house and the remote start gives me the confidence that I’ll be able to set it up in my husbands absence if need be. The reviews from both web forums and social media by others living in Houston and using this exact generator for days were spot on and we are certainly glad we chose Westinghouse! But it. I swear you won’t be sorry

EXCELLENT PRODUCT
The product assembly was easy, the shipping was prompt, and the instructions for start up were well written. The duel fuel is a life saver incase the gas stations are without power. The generator started up easily with the push button start and ran excellent. I am excited to use this product when the time comes… and that is saying something. I think this generator is the best bang for your buck.

nice little work horse…… Good price…
I like this generator mostly for the price. This is an affordable high-quality generator that can power my whole home. Having the ability to use two different fuel sources adds to the value and usefulness of this product. The push button start is very convenient. Though it comes with a remote start key chain I have yet to use this feature. Having a pull start function, takes the worry out of an emergency situation if the push start should fail. the generator feels very well built and has all of the connections you could need. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommenda Westinghouse generator to anybody looking to invest in a whole home generator.

High quality and low-price product
The Westinghouse WGEN9500DF generator has truly exceeded my expectations in every way. Its dual-fuel capability provides incredible versatility, allowing me to switch between gasoline and propane effortlessly. The power output is impressive, easily handling all my essential appliances during power outages without breaking a sweat. The electric start is a game-changer, making it incredibly easy to operate, and the sturdy build gives me confidence in its long-term durability. This generator is a must-have for anyone looking for reliability and performance.Additionally, the WGEN9500DF runs remarkably quiet for its size, which is a significant advantage in residential areas. The clear and user-friendly control panel makes it easy to monitor and manage, even for those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy. I also appreciate the included remote start feature, which adds a layer of convenience, especially during bad weather. Overall, this generator offers excellent value for the money, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Highly recommended!

Possibly good unit, but documentation completely out of date makes for frustrating experience
I recently lost power for 8 days following the August hurricane, and after reading some reviews and checking availability I decided on the Westinghouse 9500/12500 Wgen (in retrospect I should have gotten the DF unit, but it was back-ordered when I purchased). The unit arrived in a box that was a little beat-up, but after inspection looked ok, except for 2 broken pieces of plastic in the box that I could not match up to any broken pieces on the unit ( i hope this doesnt bite me later). So, as the unit is very very heavy (north of 225 pounds) and requires a tip over to put on the wheels, I decided to wait until my electrician arrived the following week to install my transfer switch for his assistance in setting up the generator.I carefully counted the pieces in the box, and read the manual. This is where the bad surprises started.1> The BOX – not the manual – says a 10mm socket wrench is required. But the manual doesnt. So I’ve no idea what i will need it for. Ok, not too bad.2> The very first thing it says after the feet connection (which was easy) is to connect the battery. The instructions say ‘using a screwdriver, remove the screw on the red positive lead, and securely tighten the positive battery cable (+) to the red lead.’Ok, first problem encountered. The picture in the book shows the screw facing OUTWARD from the body of the gen (see the 1st pic above). However, the screw on the unit faces horizontally to the body! (see 5th picture above)Furthermore, the lead was already connected!!!! I ended up unscrewing the red screw for nothing (and it required a wrench to hold the back screw in place – and the wrench that came with the generator did NOT fit that screw.Ok, now feeling a bit uneasy, I read the next part.3> Locate the black negative cable attached to the alternator case, and route it to the negative battery post. The docs show the completed setup above (labeled as image 3, but its the 1st picture) where the white sleeved negative cable routes around the front of the unit wherre there is an empty screw hole that the docs say you should attach the cable..However, if you look at my 7th picture, you will see that the black cable goes NOWHERE near the picture the document has. So, I was at a loss. Should I disconnect the black cable from its location and route it around to the *empty* hole where the docs say it should go? A hole with no screw, and none provided with the generator? It was obvious to me that the quickconnect was required – DESPITE being not mentioned or pictured in the docs – but it was VERY VERY unclear if i still needed to disconnect and reroute the black wire.A call to Westinhouse on Friday afternoon got me a long wait time and then a disconnect.Feeling even more queasy, I decided to leave the battery cable as it was, attache the quick connect, and try the battery later to see what happened. After all, I had an electrician at my house (he too could make no sense of the docs, and had me check that the documents were for the 9500/12500 that I had bought (they were).4> As instructed, I filled the oil using the handy funnel. No issues with this, happily enough, though despite being on a level surface and using the entire bottle, the oil levels still showed on ‘L’. I moved the unit around via the handle, hoping the oil would slosh around, but no matter what, it always stayed on L. There were no leaks, so I couldnt understand it.5> Next, I put 2 full gallons of gas into the unit. My plan was to let it run for a couple of hours while the electrician did his thing, as i didnt want to put load on it straight away. Hmm, the gas guage still shows as clear white (look at last picture).6>Next, I was ready to start the unit. Before I did, it tells me to check the breakers. However, the picture and the docs show *2* breaker/trips – but my unit had *4*. See the 3rd and 4th picture above (the black and white pic from the docs). The docs pic has 2 breakers and the neutral bond below the 4 receptacles. Mine had 4 breakers and the neutral below the receptacles. What the heck?????????Furthermore, when I looked closely, I noticed the 2 20amp breakers under my first 2 receptcles did NOT have any buttons at all (see 4th pic above, with 2 arrows pointing to the extra breakers that the docs dont have). Was this the broken plastic I found? I looked, and realized it couldnt be – the plastic was long and sharp, almost like a fan blade made of plastic (lets hope its not!!!!)Ok, so ignoring the breaker discrepancy and realizing the docs were COMPLETELY WORTHLESS I went with a brief read.Flip fuel valve on? Just like a lawnmower, check.Flip Choke? YesFlip Main Circuit Breaker to OFF. YesClear Intake area and move to flat outside area. DoneFlip to RUN. CheckOk, lets fire it up. I was prepared for the battery to not work, and would manually start it if required (I had already misplaced the key fob for remote start).Press button for 1 sec as document say (it was good for something after all, besides cleaning up the oil spill and gas that i wasnt careful with) and the green start light engages.Hold my brearth, and YES, i hear the battery trying to start the unit.No dice. It tries asgain. Same. And again. SameOk, lets turn the choke on, and try a manual start.Yes! The engine kicks over, and its running. But wait, the rpm’s are all over the place. The electricians look over to me, they know something is not right.Sure enough, the unit sputters to a halt.Ok, lets check everything. We do. Fuel valve,. battery,. gas (we put the 2nd gallon in, still no change on fuel guage on unit). Checked oil, still on L but now a bar higher than the lowest bar (yes i used the entire bottle they sent). At this point, we open the air filter. Looks very clean. Check spark plug. Looks fine.I go out and get 3 more gallons of 92 octane gas (the opriginal was 2 day old 87 octane unleaded, from New York, so 10% ethanol or less).Dump the gas in. FINALLY the gas guage starts to move. Have no idea why it didnt move at 1 or 2 gallons, but hey, the manual was so bad maybe it requireres more on first use? Who knows.Ok, fire it up, electric start. YAY, it works on first try. And the rpm is holdind somewhat steady.I check the cool digital readouts, but nowehere in the manual can i find what any of them mean, so i ignrore them.We are now ready for a load test. The unit has been running for 2 hours, and it only shut itself off maybe 5 times. As this is the first generator i’ve owned, ive no idea if this is normal, though my electrician is asking me why I didnt buy a Honda.Anyway,w we finally turn off utility power, I make sure the circuit breaker (at least, the 1 of 5 that are listed correctly in the documents) is set to the ON position, and we turn the 1st switch. Its not too bad – 1 outlet with a single light fixture.Works! Looking good.Lets try for a bit more. How about my Refridgerator? Its a small unit, draws, according to my handy fridge documentation that actually seems accurate, about 1500 watts.Should be no problem for this 12500/9500 beast, right?Wrong. The minute we flip the swithc, the unit chokes and stops.Another call to WEstinghouse, but oops, its after 5pm now,, i get nowhere. At this point, my patient electrician shows me what circuits are what, we label everything, and he suggests a few places for me to go the following day to get help. Clearly this generator is having some issues. So bright and early today (saturday – all of this drama happened yesterday) I moresly go to to autozone, and buy some accessories. New spark plug, fuel stabilizer, fuel line cleaner, and more oil. That pesky oil never did go beyond the 2nd bar above the L (and yes – i did indeed use the WHOLE BOTTLE – which everyone i spoke to – including the lawnmower repair man, the autozone guy, and the electrician, asked me). When i mention to the autozone guy about the documentation problems, he recommends immediately to put another 1/2 quart of 10w30 4 stroke in.So, I go home, dump the oil in, and pray….Nope. Fails on startup. 1 time, 2 times, 3 times.Manual start with choke. Works.Ok, i decide to wait. l,et that oil spread around. I then repeat all my processes from yesterady, get my long and heavy 50 amp cable plugged in (tip – if you get this unit, get an inline connector for the generator. The 50amp elbow plug does *NOT* clear the wheels. The 50amp outlet should have either been higher or furthjer left. I am ordering an inline adapter if i can find out, as getting the cable in and out – and a 50 amp is very heavy and stiff – makes the plastic housing of the socket feel like it wants to break. Finally – finally – the gas guage is looking corect, and the oil level is now midway to H. I start it up, it starts. right away.I begin load transfer. Lights. Check. Fridge. Check. Hot Water heater. Check. Now cross fingers – A/C unit 3 ton ). Nope. Tripped.ok reverse course. lets do AC first. YES! it starts. Now bring fridge next. YES! lights. YES. Hot water heater. YESFinally i am good to go.I let the unit run for a few hours until the gas runs dry. I got 4 hours from the gas, not sure what the load percentage was as I’ve no idea how to read the cool guage with its frequency voltaage modes, as i cant locate them in the great manual. Will need to google that.Moral of this story:1> The documentation is OUTDATED and terrible. Needs to either be corrected OR they should have a BIG ‘GETTING STARTED’ insert that tells you to go online for the latest instructions that you can then read on your phone while you are at the generator. The battery fiasco was inexcusable.2> The oil!!!!!! How could they not give you enough oil to run the unit? Either give none, or give a bigger bottle. Not cool. I know the unit has a low oil cutoff switch, butr I dont know where that light is located or how you know if it trips.3> Did i mention the missing buttons for the circuit breakers? Whats up with those?Because of these giant headaches, i give this a 3. Seems to have power, not too loud, portable with the bar, but the support issues (granted i only tried once before 5pm) and the sttupendously innacurate docs give this a 3 in my book.UPDATE 10-6Ok, Westinghouse made good on the issues. I was not able to get anyone from there customer service to call me back, but when I went through Amazon i got someone from Westinghouse fairly quickly.I was offered 3 options:1> Preferred (by them) – take the unit to a westinhouse licensed dealer in my county (there are 2). However, despite one of them offering pickup service, westinghouse would *not* allow that, and i would need to get the unit there myself. as the unit weighs 225 lbs, this was not happening.option2> they would send me some replacement parts; however, i would need to disassemble the front electronics plate to install new breaker switches, and this was no guarantee that the broken pieces of larger plastic were not indicative of more issues (like i said, the plastic in the box was sharp, and looked like a fan blade edge). As i dont have the tools at home for disassembling the unit, i passed on this.3> they offered a return, despite it being past the 30 day mark. I took this option. So – despite the problems and hassle, they stood by their product and i am getting a new one. Will update when it arrives and we will see how it goes

So far, so good
I’ve never had a generator before, so am new to all of this. I bought the Westinghouse WGen9500DF, which on Amazon is listed as “Westinghouse 12500 Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator” The 12500 is the max starting watts, not the 12500 model, so that’s a little confusing. So far, I am impressed with my purchase. Everything they promised appears to have been included. It seems well made, so hopefully that is true of all of the components and it will not only work whenever we need power, but it will do so for years to come. There was a little bit of an issue setting up the appointment for delivery. I think this was on the delivery company, XPO I think they said it was. I got a computerized call evidently trying to confirm the original setup date and time and it said, “Press one to confirm” or something like that, I pressed one, heard a strange computerized sound, and then the call disconnected. So, I figured that it was done. Got another call 10 or 15 minutes later that seemed to be the same thing, but this time I ended up talking to someone. So we confirmed it was all set up, which seemed like a bit much because I had indicated that the delivery date and time that was suggested when I ordered it was going to be fine. Later when I went to look at the track your order thing on Amazon it said something about how there was a problem with confirming delivery, so that was a little disconcerting. I decided that must have come from the first call that disconnected. Eventually that page showed that the delivery date and time was confirmed, but the note about there being a problem setting it up remained, so…it remained a little concerning. They appeared pretty serious about confirming delivery though. I lost track of how many times they called but I thought it was more than should have been necessary. The delivery was set for between 9 and noon. I think they got there about 10:15.The delivery guys were okay. I was told I would get a phone call 30 minutes before delivery. They called and said they were 2 minutes from my house. Not a really big deal, but I wasn’t ready to answer the door. I was sort of counting on the 30 minutes, but very excited to get the generator. They were out in front of my house before I was, but I am pretty sure they really were about 2 minutes out as they had said. They evidently were not allowed to leave the generator in my back yard, which was what I had planned. They waited patiently while I moved my car out of the garage where I guess they are allowed to leave it. They waited again while I unboxed the generator and looked for any obvious damage. The box had a hole in the bottom of it, but I didn’t find the generator to be damaged in that spot or any other. I was a little concerned because I had to cut the box off of the generator and when I asked how they would take it back if it were damaged, the one delivery guy said they wouldn’t take it back. He later re-thought that and said they would. Evidently they deliver for many different companies and Amazon has different policies regarding accepting delivery than the others. But again, it wasn’t damaged, so no problem.I was surprised that the 1.16 quarts of oil that came with it didn’t quite fill it enough. I had to add a little bit. The funnel they sent worked great. I thought it was interesting that the maintenance instructions said to check the oil level without screwing the plug/dipstick in. It seemed a little difficult to be sure it was measuring properly without securing it by screwing it in. When I got enough oil in it I kept cross threading the plug, but eventually managed to get it in there properly. User error, I am sure. I liked that they sent a real wrench to use to tighten up the feet. They also included a spark plug wrench, which I haven’t needed so far, but expect I will at some point. An nice extra little touch was that the two wrenches were in a little black bag that said Westinghouse on it. I expect this will be really helpful whenever I need to change the spark plug…maybe I’ll notice that little bag and use their wrench, rather than it just sitting loose in my toolbox and my wondering what the heck that was for. This is my first Westinghouse product, so I will hopefully be able to quickly determine that it must go to the generator. The instructions said to set the generator on the exhaust side to put the feet and wheels on, so I did that. Instructions had also said to do this on a piece of cardboard or something similar to keep from scratching it up. I had to prop the bottom up a little to get the wheels on, which I think there may have been enough clearance without the cardboard being there. Propping it up was a little challenge because the generator is pretty heavy, but all of the parts were there and fit together the way they should; it was pretty easy to put on the feet and wheels. Once I had the wheels and feet on I found the generator to be pretty easy to move in spite of it’s weight. The wheels and the handle appear to be up to the task. I moved the generator out beside the garage, which is where I anticipate will be where it will run when in actual use. I attached the propane hose that came with it to one of the tanks I have for my grill. Used the fob to start it up and it started right away. One “problem” was/is that it is really loud. However, I expected it to be pretty loud, so I certainly don’t blame anyone for that. I left it running and went in the house and while I could hear it, it didn’t appear that the noise would be any more disruptive than a gas powered lawnmower running outside. I pressed the button on the fob and it shut down as expected. Later I tried starting it again and had another user issue. I had attached a little gauge to the propane tank to see how much propane was still in it, and then attached the hose to the generator. Then tried to start it by pressing the button on the panel rather than using the fob. And it wouldn’t start. It tried and tried. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts, I switched the battery switch to off and it stopped trying. That’s when I realized I had neglected to open the valve on the propane tank, so of course it wouldn’t start. So, remedied that, tried it again, still wouldn’t start. At this point I removed the gauge, hooked it back up, and it started. Now however, I don’t know if the second attempt when it wouldn’t start was due to the gauge limiting the propane flow, or just having tried to start it with the valve off. I will likely try again with the gauge and see what happens. I plugged my circular saw into each of the four 20 amp outlets and they all worked fine. I haven’t yet tested the 30 or 50 amp outlets. I have an electrician coming to install a transfer switch and expect that I will be able to test them then…as well as testing a “real” electrical load. I have not tested it with gasoline either. If it will run the whole house, or most of it anyway, on propane, I may not use the gasoline option as I would rather not deal with all of the potential issues with storing the fuel itself, stabilizer, etc., but also keeping the generator from getting all gummed up, like draining the fuel bowl etc. Anyway, I am pretty satisfied so far.

Quality, attention to detail
Our Westinghouse 9500 duel fuel generator was delivered this past week. I was a little concerned with the cardboard packaging being pretty beaten up, but there was absolutely no damage to the generator. The instruction manual and startup guide is well written and easy to follow. I installed the two wheels and feet as well as filling the engine with the supplied oil in about 20 min. Anxious to see if it would start I wheeled the unit from the shop up to the house and found that by lifting handle about waist high the generator balanced pretty well and was relatively easy to move. It is a heavy unit but with the large wheels and some experimentation with balancing I’m pleased that, as a 68 year old man, it is manageable. I hooked up the propane pushed the start button and within seconds it started and ran until I turned it off about 5 min. later. I would suggest referring to the manual before firing it up. There is an on/off switch, fuel selection switch, and if you want to run on gasoline, a fuel tank valve that must be in the correct position. After running on propane, I followed the procedure to run the generator on gasoline which it did successfully. We have installed a 50 amp locking power outlet and plan to energize the entire service panel with this generator. Currently we are waiting for the arrival of the panel lockout switch so we can safely switch between Pacific Power and this Westinghouse generator. The generator appears to be well designed and displays quality construction. Time will tell, but I am confident that it will serve us well during emergency power outages for years to come.

Initial Impression: Very Nice!
I just received mine yesterday. The delivery guys were great! They were very helpful and helped me open the box and get the plastic off so I could check for damage. There was none!Assembly was basically install the feet and wheels, plug in the battery, and pour in the provided oil with the provided funnel. A note about the oil… I read a lot of the reviews and there is some odd information. The provided oil is 1.1 quart, not 1 quart. I checked after adding the oil and it showed full on the dipstick. And a lot of people aren’t using the provided oil and are using synthetic oil. The User Manual is very clear about using only non-synthetic oil during the break-in period:”Use supplied oil until first recommend oil change. Do not use full synthetic oil during break in period. Full synthetic oil may prevent proper breaking and seating of the piston rings.”(That’s their wording, not mine.) So go with the provided oil until the first oil change. Then decide what type of oil you want to use. I plan on switching to synthetic oil because I live in New England and the temperature range for 5W-30 synthetic, -20 degrees F to 120 degrees F, is perfect for this area.I plan on using only propane for fuel because I don’t expect a lot of use of this generator, so I don’t want the gas gumming up the carburetor while it’s sitting for long periods. So I grabbed the propane tank off of the grill, hooked it up, set everything correctly on the generator, and pressed the start button. It took about 4 tries before it started (but it started the first time the next time I tried it). I let it run for an hour this time. The noise wasn’t too loud. My wife said that it’s not loud enough for the neighbors to be complaining, so we’re happy with it.Overall, this generator is rock solid. I already have my transfer switch set up and can’t wait to test it out this weekend.

3 year update: Keys to continued excelllence
UPDATE AFTER 3 years ownership: Everything negative that has happened to our Westinghouse 9500DF was my fault. Here’s what to avoid at all costs:1) Never let the gen over heat. If you put it in a shed, ventilation with a quality fan is mandatory When ours overheated, I forgot to plug in the ventilation fan mounted in the wall of our resin shed. After only 30 minutes or so, the starter button popped out of its place on the front of the gen, and the voltage meter began to malfunction by showing 256 volts instead of 240 (the gen was apparently still functioning and ran the circuits, but the meter was not reading correctly. Cords were so hot they felt so soft and hot, I thought they would melt. WH covered the parts and I replaced them myself, although it was very difficult to get into the electronics compartment on the front. The parts were simply plug in to replace. Find a way to remind yourself to plug in your fan after the gen starts, and let it turn off when you turn off the gen. They say no loads on the gen when starting it up, but the fan didn’t seem to cause any problem when it was plugged in at start up but directions say no.2) Batteries will be batteries, but on this gen they must be fully charged to start it on any setting. After experimentation on many ways of accomplishing this, the only way to be sure it will start every time, is to keep a maintainer on the battery constantly. Battery Tenders work wonders. Just leave it plugged into a wall outlet 24/7, AND disconnect the battery and the gen at the hookup it comes with.3) Put some Seafoam engine treatment in the gas tank at all times. It cleans while running, and preserves when not.I learned all this the hard way. I also test run once a week at least for 20 minutes. Propane can’t clog your carb but gas does, so test it on gasoline. The propane is always reliable, and with a full battery, has never failed to start. If your gas is reluctant to start, or you left your gas on since last run, it may have clogged your carb a bit *thus the seafoam*, so start it up with propane, let it run a couple of minutes to stabilize, the switch to gasoline while its running, and it may clear any deposits on the carb and start right up. With the power grid in Texas now, during our desert summers, the power goes down probably more than it does up north. So I now am very vigilant about keeping the genny primed and ready at a moment’s notice. The 9500 DF will run 8-10 hours on one tank of gasoline. God bless these lifesaving engines, and may they live forever….at least until the govt takes our fossil fuels.Awesome Amazon shipping got it here on the 4th day after my order. Two stout guys in an Amazon truck picked up this 300 lb generator and put it on the ground from the back of the truck gently and perfectly. I took my time reading and getting to know the directions before I got into the box. Not a scratch, great packaging for a sturdy, well made generator. I’m picky and I couldn’t find one problem or inconvenience. I do not plan to use gas at all considering all the clogged carbs I’ve had in my lifetime, so I started with propane and she came to life. Very smooth running, loud but I always wear hearing protection around engines on my hobby farm. Easy to move around despite the weight. Had to tilt it on its side to put the wheels on, no problem at all. Put your liquids in AFTER you put the wheels on or you’ll dump them and have a mess. I’m happy right now, though I did not try any of the outlets yet, but I’m optimistic. I had looked for a gen for months, and even cancelled one I ordered in doubt of its quality. I just chanced upon this WGen on YouTube and I knew it was right for me. Have to give God a nod here, as He gave me peace on my selection and I believe HE led me to it. I’ll update as I use it for backup. My problem is I don’t need it that often, and my gas spoils. Propane doeasn’t spoil they tell me. We’ll see. Thanks Amazon and Westinghouse. A quality made product.UPDATE: Feb. 26, 2021 after the Texas ICE PLAGUE: I felt like I was omniscient for buying this gen just a few months before the Ice Storm that plagued Texas for an entire week, just one week or so ago. I had it working ONLY on propane until the storm. When I tried to run most of my house, everything but the furnace worked (the most critical item of course), but it was also running my well and pump and several barns I have animals in with heat lambs and lights. I tried four 20 lb tanks of propane, and after running well for about half an hour on each one, the gen began to sputter and backfire then tripping the breaker and going off. I then tried gasoline instead of propane, and the gen really worked well, pulling the entire load for over 24 hours, except again, for our furnace. I bought a gen mainly for the preservation of our frozen food in several fridges and freezers, two freezers, two fridges, and it worked well for that. We though winter was over the week before the ice storm. So all we had in low teen temps were a couple of electric space heaters in the house, but it pulled us through. I think propane in these small containers must have been too cold to vaporize well or sufficiently, and left the gen without enough fuel. I was lucky to be able to find gasoline in our small town, which still had electricity for gas pumps. Our home is rural out of town. We’re thinking of getting another gen just like it, and dividing up the out house load from the house loads, and hopefully run our furnace/and/or AC in the summer. I don’t know how people live in the northern climates. We could have died in that one week. Thanks, WH for a solid generator BTW, the propane works great in the summer and normal temps about freezing. I exercised it often before the storm and it never failed or cut out like during the low temps. I’ve read enough gen reviews to know that about ten percent of all reviews and thus customers, get a dud. We were fortunate and we give God all the credit.

Great generator just make sure you turn on the gas.
We are first time generator owners and know very little about them. This Westinghouse generator is a nice piece of equipment and arrived in pristine condition. We were going to wait for the electrician to put in the 50 amp plug but there were rumors of Hurricane Francis hitting Houston so we decided to make sure it worked. We put the oil in (which came with the unit), 5 gallons of gas and connected the battery for the start button. We followed the Quick start guide. We made sure the unit was turned to gas and not propane. We turned the engine switch button to on and pressed the start button. It sounded like it wanted to turn on but it just wouldn’t start. After many unsuccessful tries I called Westinghouse. The customer service lady who was extremely nice said it sounded like we had done everything right. I even turned on the speaker phone so she could hear the unit try to start. She said because it was less than 30 days I should contact Amazon to return the unit. She said it sounded like the carburetor. She said if we didn’t want to return it they could send a new carburetor for install. I told her we had no idea how to replace a carburetor. So I called Amazon and they suggested I call the manufacturer which I had already done. So the person from Amazon, who was very nice, said it would take 48 hours for a resolution. In the meantime I started watching some videos on the unit that we purchased, only to find out that there is a little silver switch close to the pull rope that you have to turn on. Once that was turned on it started right up. That switch was turned off during shipping. There is no mention of the switch until you get past the Starting Procedure and the Shutdown procedure. It’s at the bottom of the page as a NOTE. As mentioned earlier we have never owned a generator so this is all new to us but I think it will be great when the power goes out and we don’t have to suffer through extreme heat or cold and we will be able to save all our food from spoiling. Aside from figuring out from someone else’s video that I needed to turn on that little silver switch all is good. Hopefully we won’t need to use it anytime soon but I like the peace of mind now that we have it. I gave it 4 stars because of the frustration with the switch.

Full house power for a fraction of the cost!
What a great unit! After the recent hurricane in Texas where we were without power for a few days, we decided it was time we invested in some type of generator. After losing all the food in our two fridges, and not having AC in 90 degree weather, we definitely wanted something that would allow us to power appliances and also our AC unit. After looking at the in home generators, we decided the cost of those wasn’t for us. After seeing several YouTube videos where people were using powerful portable generators, along with having an inlet connected to the breaker box, and they were powering their whole house, we chose this route. We are very happy with this decision. We had an electrician install the inlet on our house. We purchased the Westinghouse Wgen9500DF so that we could run the generator on either propane or gasoline. The unit was easy to unbox and assemble the legs and wheels. It came with the engine oil that is needed to use during the break in period. Very easy to get the unit ready to fire up. We connected the generator to the inlet, attached a propane tank, powered up the unit, and hit the start button. Since it was the first time it was being started, the start up process cycled three times and then powered up. We ended up testing the load on the unit by shutting off the main breaker to the house and having the generator run the house, just as if the power was out. It worked like a champ. All the lights were able to be turned on, the fridges were running, and most importantly, the AC was running! We are very satisfied with the purchase. For a small fraction of the cost of whole house generator, we now have a generator that can power our house and we can even take with us if we ever move!

Fantastic Dual Fuel Generator
This generator is more than I expected. The dual Fuel is what I needed foe extended runtime. Upon opening the box it came in, it was very will packaged for shipping. Instructions were simple to follow. (open box, remove from box, install wheels and rubber front feet. Fill with supplied oil . Add Gas or connect to propane, then hit the start button on the included key fob and it started right up.. like I mean immediately… it only cranked for about 1/2 a second. Runs like a Top. Noise level is comparable to by Craftsman 3500 watt generator. I have to say I am extremely happy at this point.. however time will tell.It would be nice if they included the 4 prong 30amp twist-lock male plug and the 4 prong 50amp male plug with this generator. Other than that, it has everything you need.NOTE: You MUST Use the suppled 10w30 standard oil for the first 25 hour of operation and it is extremely important to use this oil for the first 5 hours of operation as this is the Break-In Period to allow piston rings to seat correctly! Not doing so will void your warranty. Generator came with 1.16 quarts for 10w30 – this is good for 10-120 deg F. If you have extreme temperatures it will require 5w30 synthetic * -20 to 120 deg F but only AFTER the first 25 hours of runtime is completed.I Highly Recommend this generator.

Westinghouse Wgen9500DF generator; very well-made, exceptional performance, a proper warranty.
This Westinghouse generator is a fine example of how a back-up generator should be designed and built. My use is for a whole house back-up generator that will be semi-permanently installed, ready to go at any time (still doing the install). On gasoline, the generator is rated to start heavy loads of up to 12,500 total Watts (52 Amps at 240 Volts). Or, with just over 100 Amps of 120 Volt starting power available, it can start a collection of 120 Volt devices with motors that can take a little extra time to start under load, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, compressors, etc. This generator has serious creds and can start/run most household combinations of 120V and 240 V loads. This well-made beauty will last for a very long time.In my opinion, the main reason for its conspicuous strong performance is that Westinghouse has designed-in a very strong 18 HP, 457 CC engine which can readily power typical loads that, on startup, exceeds the continuous rating of 9,500/8,500 Watts (gasoline/propane). A great many generator engines will run out of horsepower during electric motor starts, but not the Wgen9500DF.I’ve not yet tested the generator with propane because my propane plumbing is not yet complete, but with gasoline the engine has been an exceptionally strong performer. Other reviewers of this genset have expressed no problem with propane, so I expect the same. Compared to my earlier unfortunate choice of a Genmax 7250/6000 Watt (starting/running) with appropriate loads, the Westinghouse 9500DF is far ahead in all aspects, from capability to quality. One obvious example of a significant difference is that the 9500DF is rated to deliver full output at up to 5000 ft of elevation without carb adjustments, which should make it an absolute beast of a generator for starting and running max loads in the areas around sea level. An available high- altitude carb kit enables operation above 5000 ft. Compared with the Wgen9500, the Genmax can deliver its specified output power only when below 2000 ft. A “high altitude” kit is required for anything between 2000 ft. and 4800 feet, it’s max altitude. I’m at 4000 ft where the 9500DF has significant reserve horsepower and readily starts and runs heavy loads well within its specifications. The quality of Westinghouse generators is well known and thus are recommended by respected consumer organizations. It only helps that I can easily start the 9500DF at all temps between 24 deg F and 89 deg F, and the remote-start fob works 200+ feet away with a good battery installed. The WGen9500DF dual fuel generator is very unlikely to disappoint, especially with respect to the warranty. The Genmax warranty is only for “substantial defects”, and they decide what that means. They require that the purchaser pre-pay round-trip shipping of any generator with a problem to their single US repair location for evaluation and possible warranty repair. My Genmax had a dead display out of the box, but the warranty requires that pre-paid shipping before they would inspect and consider whether or not to repair under warranty. Several phone messages were left at their repair center, but no call-back. Later, after I’d already returned the new Genmax (thank you, Amazon!) and had purchased a Westinghouse generator thru Amazon, Genmax finally called and eventually said that they would provide a free replacement display to me if I would fix the brand-new generator myself. No, thanks. The Westinghouse warranty is simple: If the customer provides for reasonable care and use, parts and labor are fully covered for 1 year, and parts-only for 3 years. There are many, many authorized repair stations, so shipping is typically not required. The only thing that bothered me a little, and this is picky, was that the 9500DF user manual had some mistakes. Someone must have converted another manual and missed 3 or 4 items, such as that, on the cover, the genset is said to be a Digital Inverter Generator (I wish), that it has an ECON switch (nice, if it was true), and a couple other nits. When mentioned to customer service, they thanked me and told me that a revised manual was already in the works. All’s well that ends well.If you get one of these fine gensets from Westinghouse, you’ll not be disappointed. Westinghouse and Honda set the standard for top-quality generators, but Westinghouse wins the price/value comparisons.

Well designed high quality generator with good features
Bought this for a whole house backup generator and so far am very impressed. Unit is well made and has nice touches like easy to install wheels that have two ball bearings for low effort movement and a small tool kit with a storage bag. It is easy to start and operate with an auto choke for starting on propane and an automatic restart if it doesn’t fire up the first time. Also comes with a charge maintainer for the starting battery and a plug in connection so the battery will remain fully charged for when it is needed. The ability to switch fuels while running is also nice. The multiple outlet receptacles with individual circuit breakers plus a whole unit breaker provide good flexibility and safety. Th owner’s manual is clearly written (not typical “Chinglish”) and comprehensive. It includes important items like illustrations on how to change from bonded to floating neutral and less common items like how to clean the spark arrestor and set the valve clearance should you need to. Overall this generator appears to provide excellent value for the price.

Smart Idea for emergencies!
We did a lot of research prior to our purchase, and everything led us back to the 12500 dual fuel gen. Assembly was very simple. Frame is sound, weight is hefty but once the wheels are on it was easy to move. The instructions….AMAZING! Very detailed, for everything. Oil, gas, propane, maintenance…you name it, the info was in there. We are hooking ours up to our 500 gal tank, so a certified gas tech will be doing this for us. Also, we are having an electrician install our interlock system because we need a new panel to accommodate the additional electrical needs. Price is on point for the size and functionality. Battery, dual fuel, a fob for turning on/off. It came with oil, funnel, LP hose battery charger, spark plug wrench, wheel assembly wrench, tool bag and a ton of education/reading materials (manuals). We really appreciate the illustrations with words! I will update once we run it, but I really am not concerned; the reviews speak for themselves!

hurricane prepared in Florida and used for HELENE
this was recommended by my electrician, Im single female senior in Florida and have had a gas generator in the past, and gave away due to maintenance. ( and only ran refrigerator maybe a window AC and small devices) This being duel fuel was a great solution. and will run my AC unit! just have to add of your watts, could have gone bigger, but this is easy to roll into place, LOVE the remote!Really didn’t Helene do shut down power in jacksonville, but wok up 3 AM power had been off, raining, went out moved in place and hooked up love the button to start up and the fob!, worked like a dream, 1500 sq ft house 3 ton AC lights fridge, ceiling fans. we have gas heat and stove, so you would have to do the math for that, or just turn AC off when using certain devices. VERY PLEASED!

Westinghouse Generator
We purchased our Westinghouse WGen9500 DF portable home generator on Amazon. It arrived in two days and was unloaded on our driveway. The User Manuel provided was very well done; easy to understand with nicely labeled diagrams. The installation of the feet and wheels was easy, all tools provided. The handle is really nice because you can even grab it with one hand, if need be, to move the generator around. The generator started right up using gas or propane. It has an easy to reach gas turn off so you can run gas out of the carburetor for storage. It pulled started on the first pull but I am certainly glad it has electric start. I went into the house and used the remote start. It started the generator passing through two walls and the garage. That is going to be a great feature when the weather is nasty. The whole unit is very compact, and we were pleased with the noise level, at least when running with no load. I have not run the generator in a home power outage emergency situation but I have full confidence it will work great with plenty of power. The generator comes with a five foot propane hose which is adequate when using a portable propane tank. I will be using stationary tanks and a 10 foot hose would have been nice. I would highly recommend this generator for home use. My neighbors on both sides of me just ordered the same generator for themselves.

Started first try
Out of the box, all that was needed to get it ready was putting the wheels and handle on, and putting the oil in the crankcase. I added gasoline, plugged the battery wires together, and hit the starter button. The battery was charged enough to turn over and it started right up. Let it run for 5-10 minutes to re-charge the battery. Haven’t had my grid electricity go out since then so I don’t really know how well it will work producing the amperage I need. The propane hose with regulator came with the generator but I haven’t yet tried it. A good experience so far.

Great Product
The Westinghouse 12500 Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator saved me from making the difficult decision to leave my home. I was very comfortable staying in one area in my home and could definitely feel the heat difference walking to other rooms and quickly returned to my cooled room. The generator was easy put together, the instructions were clear, showed parts to assemble and where to place. The generator was quick to start by pulling the rope or using the remote control. The remote is so cool to have and fun to use. The unit: runs quietly, is easy to fill with gas, easy to move by the attached handle, easily handled operating two (2) fans, my TV, and a lamp with extension cords, and ran for 12 hours before needing to refill. I would recommend buying this generator. My next function is to try using a propane to evaluate running time(s) before needing replacement. Getting a 240 outlet installed and evaluate how many appliances the Westinghouse 12500 Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator can handle. Will have to come back later to share results.

Easy to Use, Powerful, Duel Fuel!!
I was looking for a generator strong enough to power my central AC in case we lose power during a hurricane (we live in Miami), and I found this one online. Since I know that gas can be hard to come by during a storm, I love the fact that it’s got dual fuel capability, allowing me to use propane as well. The electric start button is a welcome addition after having to use the pull cable to start generators in the past. The only negative is that it is quite noisy, but it’s better than sweating from lack of AC during a storm. A few carefully placed pieces of plywood do a good job reducing the noise significantly.

Nice Generator with Remote Starter
I like the size (12,500 watts) and the features. Dual fuel (gas and propane) and the remote start are excellent options to have. I bought it to use as a backup house generator and transfer switch. While not big enough to power everything in my home (AC, electric stove, electric dryer, etc.) it will power all my lights/outlets, fridge, freezer, and if needed my water heater. Of course the more you use, the faster your fuel get used as well. However, living on the east coast it will be nice to have for those frequent storms. In the past I have got by with smaller generators, but they can be hard to start (pull cord), and you had to leave a door cracked open to run drop cords inside and pull your fridge, etc out from the wall to plug in. I’ve only just done a test run to make sure it worked, but so far happy with the purchase.

Great Product for home use
The Westinghouse WGen9500DF is an excellent choice for home backup power, offering the convenience of dual-fuel capability (gasoline and propane) and a push-button start. Its 9,500 running watts and 12,500 peak watts on gasoline provide ample power to run most essential household appliances during outages, from refrigerators to air conditioning units. I love the push-button electric start which adds convenience, and the generator also supports remote start, making it even easier to use.The unit is built solidly, with features like a heavy-duty frame, fuel gauge, and GFCI outlets for safety. Noise levels are reasonable for its size, and it includes a transfer switch-ready outlet for seamless home integration.A great all-around generator which I would recommend, its ability to run on either gasoline or propane adds flexibility, especially in emergencies and is ideal.

Great. Only slight drawback is the output socket placement
4/5 stars for the output cord placement. I got this as a whole home generator as we had frequent outages with lightening storms when I first moved in. I haven’t had to use it, but I do run it once every few months. Today, we had a scheduled power outage from the power company, and I work from home, so I had to plug it in to my home.***I recommend you set it up and power your home to test to make sure it all works before you need it!!!**It works, but the big problem is the 30Amp outlet is just above the tire. My cord has a right-angle plug in, so it hits the tire. Fortunately, the tire has a snap pin to come off very easy, and fortunately, it’s summer and not -40 with 4ft of snow, which is possible here.If you get this, you’ll want a straight cord to avoid having to take the tire off. I got this one on Amazon:GearIT 50-Amp Generator Extension Cord (15 Ft) Inline NEMA 14-50P to SS2-50R Twist Lock Connector STW 6/3+8/1 AWG 125/250V for 50A Power Inlet Box, RV Camper, Generator to House – 15 feetPowers my 4,000 ft house with no issues… granted I’m not doing laundry or dishes but do have several computers running for work, and fridge, freezers etc.

As expected – matched highly rated reviews
Received the Westinghouse WGen9500DF Generator and immediately unboxed and assembled. Although the box had a good-sized tear in the side, the contents of the inside of the box were unharmed. The Amazon delivery people had a hard time getting it out of the truck because unlike other transport providers, whoever loaded up their truck did not place items from rear to front in the order of delivery. Instead my generator was towards the front of the truck so the delivery staff had to spend a good 30 minutes re-arranging the contacts of the truck in order to get access to my generator. The box is extremely heavy so I am surprised the generator is not palletized which could eliminate damage? While unboxing I noticed some of the cardboard and plastic wrap was drenched in oil which was initially concerning. However, once I got the unit out of the box and wiped down things were fine. There are plenty of warnings in the manual and tags on the unit indicating the generator is shipped without engine oil so my worries were unfounded. only some minor scratches on the frame which I can touch-up with spray paint. Other than that the unit looked flawless. Assembly was a breeze and took a whole 10 minutes (install two wheels, two foot pads, add oil which is supplied, and add gas). Looked over the manual and had the unit running within 30 minutes of unboxing. Tested both the push-button start and remote start. Placed the unit under a light load in my garage and seemed to work fine. Pending installing a 50A outlet running from the outside of our home to a manual transfer switch which I have yet to receive and install. Decided to utilize the included battery charger to charge overnight until the LED went from red (Charging) to green (Charged). The unit has a nice fold-down handle which makes wheeling it around very simple, even for my wife. My plan is to store it in the garage, then when we lose power (maybe once or twice a year here in WI), wheel it outside, plug it into the outlet (well inlet really), get it running then manage the transfer switch depending on where we need power. I sized the unit (9500W running on gas) to twice the load we plan to power during an outage. I have done the math (both for peak inrush and running currents) and plan on loading it with a fridge, a freezer, a well pump, garage door opener(s), furnace (for winter outages), and a portable air conditioner unit (for summer if needed), lastly some minimal lighting and outlets for low wattage items if needed. It is not the intent to provide back-up to the entire home since outages here in WI are minimal and last perhaps hours to a day at max, but preparing for future outages due to electrical grid issues? Nice problem to have if our electrical grid remains as reliable as it has, but good to be prepared. I decided (for now) to leave the central A/C out of the backup circuit due to it’s power draw, is the reason we will just run a portable A/C in one room to stay cool if needed. Also deciding to lighten the load in case we need to run on propane which reduces the running watts by 1000. Anyway, I like the idea of dual fuel capability as we almost surely have tanks of propane sitting around just in case we run out of gas. The unit appears very well built, high quality materials, everything well laid-out (control panel, gas / oil, etc.) and expect for the 50A plug aligning with a wheel causing the 50A plug needing to be bent slightly, very well designed. I had to minimally bend the 50A cord slightly to get it too fit snugly into the outlet so no big deal for me. Westinghouse also provides clear instructions how to modify the unit for unbonded neutral. I am an industrial engineer and understand neutral to ground bonds so if you don’t understand this, do your research and understand consequences of modifying the bind, please consult a licensed electrician. I looked into a Generac whole home automatic generator, and although they are nice, the price-point is easily 10 times more than I spent on the WGen9500DF and items I need for connection to a manual transfer switch (went with the Reliance 510C). So unless you experience outages routinely, don’t mind a little manual intervention during an outage, and are not infinitely wealthy, consider this as an option as you can possibly create a backup solution that does not empty your bank account.
