Changed my life!
I bought this item because my mother was going to visit us from abroad and she has type 2 diabetes so I wanted to be prepared as she constantly needs to check her glucose levels. Come to find out that after I received the item i checked my own glucose levels and boom! It was super high! So I made an appointment with my doctor and I got diagnosed with diabetes too. I won’t say that this product safe my life but it definitely help me open my eyes to a problem that I never paid attention before. I truly believe that is important to have this type of tools at home just to prevent tragedies in the future. I hope this helps cheers!

Satisfied
This meter works fine. All you need to do is put the battery in and put on a needle and put a test strip in and you are ready to go. You don’t HAVE to program all of the settings in before you can use it. I personally just use it to test whenever i need to. It comes with 100 Lancets and 100 test strips, which is nice. The only con is the way it releases the Lancet after you are done testing. But it’s not a huge deal.

Seems to work fine.
This glucometer seems to work fine. The unit used to prick my finger works well and does not really hurt. It take a tiny amount of blood for the test. My previous glucometer was discontinued and strips were no longer available. I like that this one has a control solution to check accuracy.

cannot buy replacement reusables, test solution has unknown concentration
About 5 days later…Menten replied offering a refund. I declined since a refund didn’t address the problems postedThe setup works fine and gives reproducable results.Even though they know the concentration of the test solution, they don’t tell you, so you can’t tell if your reader is out of spec. All you can tell is that it’s the same or different to earlier. The consumables (lancets, test strips, test solution) are not reorderable separately. You have to buy everything again, which results in more electronics going to landfill.I don’t like that they tell you to put the sharps into your garbage. There are proper ways of disposing of sharps and putting them in the garbage is not one of them, even if you do stick the pointy bit into a disk of plastic. How long is that going to protect people from the pointy bit? I don’t know what the proper ways are for the general public, but at least putting the lancets into a ziplock bag and taking them to the pharmacist to put in the bin for discarded medicines would be a start.

Great (ignore-Awful) Quality Control: Correction, I was wrong, read below.
Correction: My apologies to the company. I got a different, good monitor, and it gave me the same high value. long story, I had added collagen peptides to my morning coffee, not thinking it could affect my glucose that much. Please ignore the description below. This is a great monitor.I do like this device a lot other than the accuracy. Imagine you buy a new car and take it to the highway where there’s a 75 MPH speed limit. You are doing 75 and the police stop you for speeding at 105. I took my old monitor to my annual blood test and tested it immediately after the blood extraction, and there was a small difference (5?) in the results. Unfortunately, I can no longer get test strips for my old monitor. After at least 12 hs fasting, my reading is 85 – 100. I tested the new monitor vs the old one a couple days ago, and the results were 88 for the old one, vs 123 for the new one. Ridiculous difference. I tested the new monitor with the control solution, and it showed 158, right at the upper limit. Not worth for me trying to contact seller. The only explanation for the good reviews it has is that they have awful quality control, and I got a bad one.

Super good price on a responsive glucometer, but get different lancets (Safety concern)
I will always start with the positives and then recommend potential changes or alert consumers to possible issues, so here goes. First, the price is good and there are many testing strips (2 bottles), and lancets, to keep you going for a month or two. The glucometer is super easy to use too. The case is compact and allows you to carry all the supplies. I got this glucometer for an EMT class (for testing) and I trained my 10-year-old granddaughter on how to use it. She now openly invites everyone that comes in, a great chance to know their blood sugars. Perhaps I have my medic in the making. She even did her own, which was impressive, when grown adults whimper at getting a small stick that could alert them to possible health issues. Now for my recommendations. Get the orange square, self-retracting, lancets. This kit uses a manual loading pen that you must physically load and have the sharp exposed, even when removing. The sharp has a twist-off plastic cap. This increases an accidental stick tenfold, plus you need your own sharps container, whereas the self-retracting orange lancets allow you to simply discard, although you should try to at least find a bottle to use or even a sharps container. You have no option on this kit. I found cork to stick mine into and then disposed of in our sharps container. This is super important around kids and new users. You have to load the sharp sticking out, not in, and then the pen cap covers that. It is risky for sure, but once you know how to use it, you just pay closer attention. It is also time-consuming as you have to break the pen apart, load the lancet, cock a hammer, rotate to the depth gauge (a nice feature for infants to large adults), and then remove a live sharp. I know how to use these kits as a former EMTI and Firefighter, so I wanted one as I regain my EMT to go back into teaching. I will use this kit for home and then buy another for my kit as this simply takes too long with patients in the back of the rig or on scene. Don’t let that stop you from buying as you can simply buy the self-retracting lancets and exchange them for this kit. You will also need sterile wipes or alcohol pads. It’s a nice little kit for daily users or people who are well-versed. For the occasional user, get the self-retracting lancets and exchange them for these skinny blue ones. you will thank me. I never used the pen and wanted to try as I thought everything would be protected, but I now know better.

I think nearly every older adult today needs a glucose meter. This is one I can recommend.
I like this meter mainly because it is easy to use, reliable, and I think very affordable for what it does. The display is nice and easily readable. Mine came with 2 batteries (only 1 is needed), 100 testing strips and 100 lancets along with the automatic plunger. It also has a test solution to confirm the meter works correctly, and a zippered bag to keep everything together. The meter comes with software so you can upload the data to your computer, add notes, calculate averages, follow trends over time, etc. I use my meter and upload the data to my laptop every day. I then make adjustments in the foods I eat from my data log, and watch how I can reduce blood sugar spikes. There is something both satisfying and very educational about all of this. While I like the meter, there are a few issues that I don’t like about the software. First is that I cannot erase data points in the meter itself. If you are playing around with it when you first get it (like I was) and you now want to erase the bad data from the good data, you can’t do it (there is a way, but it involves resetting the meter). Now you can omit the bad data from entering into calculations in the software, but this is not the same as totally erasing the data. I just find it very annoying that I can’t erase obviously bad data easily from the meter itself, or go back and reassign test solution data that was accidentally marked as general data. A second issue I have is that the software is very limited in what it can do. You really can’t change any of the displays to perform custom calculations or make personalized plots of the data. I can move the data into another software package to do these things, but it is a hassle to do that. In any case, the software is free and it is helpful. But if you want more sophisticated analysis and graphing, you will need to use Excel or SPSS, or something similar. Most people will not need to analyze their blood glucose in such detail, but it is a shame the software is so limiting. I definitely recommend that you learn to use the free software to get the most from the meter.

No False readings or not enough blood supplied in sample
This is the very best meter I’ve ever used. I’ve never had a sample discarded for too small a sample size or any one of a number of other issues using other meters. No continuous recalibration requirements. Works very well, much better than expected.

Accurate meter, easy to use
This is one of the more easier to use blood glucose meters. It takes only about a minute to set up. The only problem I have with it is the memory settings. You can’t edit or archive old results and the only real practical way to view them is by hooking it up to your computer through the provided USB cable.

Make sure to calibrate it to get accurate readings
Once I learned how to get the blood on the test strip, the monitor would take the reading pretty quickly. It becomes much easier to use each time. The lancets are small and fit in the pen easily and the button to puncture your finger is quick and smooth – no resistance or a loud POP when you prick your finger. At first I was getting some pretty low (for me) readings which made me think, “My doc’s office IS full of crap! I’m not pre-diabetic with these numbers! They just want me to put me on meds to make more $.”I would definitely suggest to anyone who has purchased this and is getting readings that seem “off”, to use the little bottle of glucose on a test strip so the monitor can calibrate a better reading. Once I did that and I tested myself the next morning, I got more of an accurate reading that matched what I had been getting at the docs office the last few years.I do recommend this product!

Great value
This seems to be a great value. The instruction book did not answer all the questions I had, but there are some great videos that go over the techniques and materials. I am getting very good at testing my blood sugar now and it came in handy as I have had some episodes of low blood sugar as I negotiate my first dealings with a medication for diabetes.

Hard to get reading. User error
Update:Per pics that came with unit, looked as myself (and possibly many others) thought blood sample was to be placed on TOP of strip. After watching utube videos, tried placing front of test strip into blood sample. Works much better. Now gets reading every time.Still have not had chance to verify reading with lab tests, but now get consistent reading every time (and only have to use single strip per test)Original post:Calibrated ok. It’s hard to get a reading. Usually takes a couple of test strips B4 meter reads the sample. When I actually do get a sample to read, I have to question whether it’s valid. Tried to compare meter with real sample when giving blood. Unfortunately, that was one of the times the meter would not read the sample on the strip.

Too complicated
Has the date set, a time set, and memory folders. Also has timers and a variety of other things, and only one button controls it all. Never could get it to test the glucose.Update: On the teststrip the x with the down arrow sign is not on top facing the user. The x, apparently is for the back side of the strip. The side of the strip that doesn’t have any markings on it is what faces up and in.

Results in seconds
Don’t be intimidated when you open up the box and see all these pieces and say where do I start it is really simple just put the needle in the poker like it shows you put the strip in the machine like it shows you poke your finger put the strip on the blood spot a few seconds later you have your results I was disappointed with my results as I think I am now a diabetic but without this little gadget I would never know unless I went to a doctor

Not a great product- updated
Update- I think I was hasty and unfair in my previous review. Since the original review we have learned to better use the product and are satisfied. I can say now, that the product is good for the cost. This monitor is not user friendly. We end up using multiple strips nearly every time it is used as it won’t recognize the test strip. Would not recommend.

I would give it 6 stars if I could.
After reading the instructions, set up was very easy. I really like this meeter. the clear and bright blue screen is very easy to read. The i-cons are large and easy to see. What I like best is that it takes the tinyest drop of blood to get an accurate test. One thing, it comes with 2 AAA batteries. The meeter takes just one and it ran out of juice after just 4 tests. So, replacing the origional battery with your favorite 3A is suggested.Remember, the yellow set-up button is located in the battery compartment!

It works well
We liked that it because it gave the same reading as my blood test .What I did not like is that in order to get a reading you needed to have the blood placed on the top of the test strip not on the side. I had to find out how to use it from a friend who has been doing it for years.

Terribly inaccurate for such an important test
I do not have diabetes, am testing for low blood sugar for other reasons and don’t expect to be doing so on a long term basis thus the inexpensive device. While inexpensive, it should still be reasonably accurate but this is far from it. Readings taken 10 minutes apart, with no food intact at all, were 40 and 78. The test solution tested between 90 and 167. Repeated tests gave wildly varying readings so perhaps I got a bad unit but my next door neighbor is a retired RN and so I asked her to test me in case I was doing something wrong. She did exactly what I was doing and also got wide variances between readings. Health care devices should be held to much stricter quality standards.Update: The seller reached out to me immediately and offered to make this right. I now have a second meter which is accurate and consistent so apparently I did get a defective device. This is the type of seller that Amazon needs to encourage.

Great product and great price!
I had a unit that I used when I had gestational diabetes and could no longer get the testing strips. With diabetes being in my family and me wanting to watch my numbers, I decided to purchase this. It was less expensive then the kits at my local stores and works great.

Cash game changer!
Needed a cheaper alternative to the system I was using and decided for the price of these strips I could afford to take the chance. I have been using them for almost a month now and they are accurate and the whole system is simple. I recommend these wholeheartedly. I feel more free to test my blood much more often because of the massive savings?

Obviously this product works but I do get different readings even though I check 20 seconds apart I can see why people do not like this needle it does hurt no matter how much I wipe with alcohol before puncturing my skin half the time it seems infected it hurts after the fact and I did not realize how much the replacement test strips are I might as well buy another whole kit
