Description

North American Rescue Hyfin Vent Chest Seal

The HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack from North American Rescue sets the standard for the prevention, management and treatment of an open and/or tension pneumothorax potentially caused by a penetrating chest trauma. Two seals, each individually packaged, are designed to allow the user to apply a seal to both an entry or an exit wound while also giving the option to only apply one and store the other until needed as the situation requires. This innovative design provides 3-vented channels designed to prevent airflow into the chest cavity during inhalation while allowing air to escape through the vent channels during exhalation. The 3-vent channels are designed to allow blood to escape and also provide a backup fail-safe system, as even if two of the three channels become obstructed, the vent is designed to remain fully operational.

Advanced adhesive technology provides superior adhesion as the HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack is specifically designed to overcome adverse conditions in austere environments where the casualty may be covered in blood, sweat, body hair, or other environmental contaminants when a reliable chest seal is mandatory.

Packaged in a more compact, rugged, easy-to-open twin foil pouch, each chest seal also includes a gauze pad to wipe the wound surface prior to application. The HyFin Vent Chest Seal Twin Pack has a large red pull tab for single-step peel-and-apply application, while the transparent backing facilitates easy placement over the wound area, conforming to the patient’s chest.

Features

  • Patented, new design with 3-channel pressure relief vents
  • Two Chest Seals designed for the treatment of both entry/exit or multiple penetrating injuries

American made chest seals- 2 pack sealed together back to back

This is a great, life saving product, which is made in America, I’ve never actually used one luckily but the design appears to be the best and I’ve read many experts say that they’re the best. Even with the two chest seals folded together and sealed in plastic they’re extremely thin- you could fit a bunch of these in the average men’s jean front pocket. Hyfin also makes a larger sized chest seal which is packaged individually but they are green and square instead of grey and rectangular. They also make training chest seals which have less sticky adhesive so they can be reused on mannequins to cut costs and not make a mess. I think the thinness of the product is what may have led to the following issue:Right now the highest rated reviews for this product say that they only received one seal- the way these chest seals are manufactured two of them are always connected by that dotted red line, then folded so that they’re back to back, and then sealed in a clear wrap. If you look at the section of this page that says “From the Manufacturer” you’ll see what I mean, it may look like one seal because it’s in one package but flip it over and you’ll see the second one. Both sides are identical because that’s the front of each seal, the backs are hidden because they’re sandwiched together back to back.If someone definitely only received one seal it would be because of a dishonest seller, because they’re not meant to be sold that way- this is a twin pack and the way they’re manufactured it’s not possible that the manufacturer could have only made one chest seal and sent it to a seller.

    Decent product!

As a trained Tac-med officer I carry this product on me and store in my right cargo pocket. Responded to a shooting yesterday and used it for the 2nd time. To my experience the chest seal does not hold well with storage in the heat. It’s a little difficult to get out the package. Once that obstacle is overcome, the chest seal went on without and issues and did its job. I would recommend this product just wish the packaging held up better!

Please buy & carry these and save a life

I was at a range during a pistol competition when a AK 7.62 round deflected off a wood barrier at the top of a dirt berm from the guys behind us. The stray round hit a young man in the back puncturing his lung. He didn’t make it. Several of the veterans present said the vent chest seal would have saved him. I took a trauma class weeks later and this was the brand recommended by the veterans teaching the class. We used them on each other during the class and I lost a bunch of chest hair in the process. I now carry two of these in each car, at home and at our factory as well as in my IFAK. They are a fraction of an ounce each and the cost isn’t important compared to not having them. Be sure to buy at least two for each location you plan to keep them as holes are often on both sides. Be safe.

    Tecnology marches on

WE used to teach ‘Sucking Chest Wounds’ and we were to open the cardboard box to get to the battle dressing, then it was in a foil wrapper that you slit open and placed the sterile side down on the wound. The foil had the ability to be formed, we then placed the dressing over the foil and tied it down as tightly as possible and even added triangular bandages for extra pressure and dressing security. Then they quit using foil and started using plastic. Plastic does not form or seal as well, so our Battalion Surgeon had us carry petroleum gauze and miracle of miracles that was better than foil. 52 years later I found these. I have not and hope I do not have an opportunity to use them, but I have read the instructions and description and I am satisfied that this is at least three leapfrogs of technology nd I am thankful to have them. It is important to note that it is a twin pack. Often the victim will have a entry and a exit wound, that would need both packs, one for each hole.

    Great Value for the Price.

The North American Rescue Hyfin comes as one set of two packs with each pack containing one seal. I would highly recommend it, God willing I never need to use it.The Last two items I need for finishing the blow out kit is two, Soft T Wide TQs, which I prefer for leg wounds and a set of Nasopharyngeal Airway (28 Fr., 9.3mm) with Surgilube (2-Pack).Get these seals. Great product from a great company, North American Rescue is legit. Please take the time, if you have done so, to take a TCCC class. I took one two weekends ago. Let’s put it this way, you dont know what you dont know. Get training. You tube videos dont count, they sure help, but they dont count as training. If you’re in Virginia, The Commonwealth Criminal Justice Academy has really good training given by qualified instructors. Best money ever spent.

    Nice size, nicely packaged

This is something I will carry in my personal First Aid kit, but hope I never have a use for, either for myself or for someone else. A “sucking chest wound” is an injury — like a bullet hole — that punctures a lung, so instead of inhaling air through your mouth, your attempts to breath result in “sucking” air through the wound. Blood can also get into the lung through this hole, which is a bad thing. So there are actually TWO bandages per package, one for the front and one for the back.I am impressed by what I have seen and read about this product, so although I hope I never need it, I believe it is something I can absolutely rely on.

Happy to say that I haven’t needed this

I am fortunate to say that I havent experienced an emergency requiring the use of this product, but I feel safer knowing it’s in my first aid kit. I added this (and 3 maxi feminine napkins) for super absorption should an emergency call for it. I pray the need for a chest compression, blood absorbing super-duper absorbing first aid tool never arises.

    100% Authentic NAR Chest Seals

Glad to see that they are in fact 100% authentic NAR seals. Got to be careful when buying on Amazon. I know its convenient and what not but I can verify these are in fact real. They were $1 more expensive and didn’t offer a discount BUT they arrived sooner than they would’ve if I had bought them from NAR. Hopefully I will never have to use these, on the other hand though; I am ready, prepared, and confident for whenever that day comes.

    I got NO idea!

This is one of those products that you wish you never have to use. I gave it 5 stars because I have no right on assuming that it’s not going to work when after doing research is the one I bought. The only way I can give it 1 star is if I get shot and die because it didn’t work and I am still thinking of how that could be done. Buy at your own risk.

    The real deal

These are not Chinese knockoffs. These are the real deal bandages for a wound to the chest and lungs. Allows the lungs to ventilate so you don’t asphyxiate the victim in their own blood. Put them in a couple IFAKs on a belt and tactical vest.

    Great chest seals

Wish I had these when I was a working paramedic (Israeli emergency bandages too, for that matter). Having two seals for front and back in case of a perforating chest wound is nice, but in a mass casualty incident when supplies are tight, you can just use one on the front wound and a fully occlusive dressing on the back. It’s how we used to do it in the military and on the street before these nice double packs, using plastic from a dressing package or even the wrapper from a cigarette pack and some tape. I like to keep a couple of 4x4s to wipe blood and some tincture of benzoin swabs handy too.

Well known company, great product for trauma kit

I have not had the misfortune to need to use this product yet, but should the time come I’m highly confident it would work as described. I opened one of the packets to check on the seal, and in doing so will not put that one back into my kit, although you could if you were careful and resealed the seal to the plastic lining. There are so many reasons (other than the obviously gunshot) to keep this in your kit. Any penetrating chest wound would likely require a chest seal. Also, they have a great youtube video taking you through the procedure for applying. I highly recommend this product.

GREAT addition to a first aid/trauma kit!

Great addition to a serious first aid kit. I believe in having a bag with medical supplies next to whatever you plan on using to defend your home. God forbid but if someone enters your home and shoots or stabs a family member and you must call 911. The ambulance will stay down the street until the police deem the scene safe and clear. In which case you could be left watching a loved one bleeding out waiting for help. I strongly suggest a kit with a tourniquet, quick clot, and one of the most important things in my opinion is this vent chest seal. You could buy a loved one some very precious time. And this is just one scenario!

Twice recommended by professionals to me.

Took an active shooter response two day course including first aid casualty care and these were the sucking chess wound patches recommended by the instructor (some ex navy corpsman with experience in the wars in the middle east as well as the LA county fire department)Then this year I take another first aid course for shooting sports taught by an LAPD officer who is also an EMT. He recommend the same brand, so I included one on each first aid kit I put together for the range bag and for my truck.

This is the best chest seal I have ever used on a Patient

This is the best chest seal I have ever used on a Patient. It is extremely simple, perfectly sized and very sticky which helps when working with sweaty skin. The seal is completely transparent which allows for constant reassessment of the injury. The seal has enough vents to allow blood and air to exit easily, but is secure enough to block any air from entering. I’ve used this seal and have seen phenomenal patient outcomes, including patients improving from respiratory distress to being able to speak full length sentences. It is a great product.

I can only comment to good packaging and looking like a quality item. If I never have to use it, so I can never finish this review and say how well it works I will be a happy camper. I purchased it, along with other items, because we often go target shooting in areas with poor cell service and a long way from help. Having a trauma kit in the car and at the shooting range is never a bad idea. I keep one in my range bag kit.

    Does what it says.

This is straight up what it says. if you’re law enforcement, a hunter, or even a prepper, this is an ESSENTIAL item. This will plug a hole “in the box” and could buy you the time you need for medical help to arrive. Don’t need to be trained to use this item (but medical training is something I always recommend if you want to be most effective in an emergency situation). I hunt, and work as a volunteer, so this item is constantly with me in my kit in case of an emergency.

I had to use this product patch a bullet wound but…

Here is my take on this product. It worked great to stop the bleeding from a bullet wound to the leg, being in mid panic I didn’t even wipe the blood off of the area before applying it and it still stuck very well. I can only imagine how good it would stick if you did wipe the area off first. However here is the problem. This person lost a ton of blood before I was able get the bandage open and ready… Pealing the protective layer off of the pad is next to impossible if your hands are covered in blood. Even if they aren’t covered in blood it’s extremely hard to pull off. To the point where I literally had to stop and read the directions to make sure I was doing it right.

    The Standard, but the Best?

There’s a lot of hype around North American Rescue products. They make great stuff, but I have noticed that their vented Hyfin chest seals can get messy when they are stuffed tight for long periods of time in an IFAK (the norm, unfortunately). They become difficult to detach and sometimes the plastic tab breaks off. There is also a loss of uniformity in the gel (gets messy) if they are scrunched up in your bag for a long time. Still very good, but I would keep an open mind and check out H&H Medical’s “H*VENT Laminar Vented Chest Seals” which are a superior product in several ways (better vent, gel stays more uniform, easier to detach) even when stuffed in your IFAK.

    Chest seal

The only chest seal worth getting IMO. If you’re looking at these and don’t know how to use them, go get some training. They’re not hard to use and there are pictures on the back, but in an emergency it’s better to have hands on experience with them. Or even practice with one in conjunction with a “how to” video if you don’t want to take a class. The expiration date on mine is also pictured, 31 August 2025. Life saving items are things I’d rather have and not need, than need and not have.

    I didn’t know about this.

If a person gets shot in the torso, they can’t breath until that hole gets sealed. Being a hunter and often times alone in the woods I think about what I would do if there were ever an accident. I carry this in my first aid kit along with a clotting cloth and a skin stapler.

Great addition to any first aid kit if you’re paranoid …

Great addition to any first aid kit if you’re paranoid about chest wounds (I know I am, thanks media). Just remember that if you DON’T have one of these in your kit, at the very least carry some garbage bags and tape to slap over a chest wound. Lung collapsing will kill you way before blood loss. If the vent works when you apply it, great. If it gets clogged by blood and the patient has a progressively harder time breathing, you will have to remove it to let the air out. If they start wheezing and can’t breath you will actually have to stick a (hopefully gloved) finger in the puncture hole to try to let that air out before you slap the dressing back over. Bubbling blood coming out of the hole is a GOOD thing. It means the air is getting released.

What’s there to say about a product you hope you …

What’s there to say about a product you hope you never have to use. It’s an object every one should have in the emergency med kit,…period. When seconds count, the first thing anyone should be doing when responding to a gun shot or stab wound to the chest is to mitigate the blood loss. Do it however you can as quickly as you can. This product is a simple and effective way to staunch the flow of blood when someone is bleeding from the chest or torso. It sticks in place despite hair, blood or sweat being present. And it may be the one thing that keeps someone alive till they can get evacuated for proper medical treatment.

    Worked great in the Field

They worked great… just wiped away the blood and applied them directly over the bullet holes in the torso… He didn’t make it, but not for a lack of trying! They’re a bit overkill for entry wounds, but if you’re preparing to deal with expanding rifle ammunition, these are excellent for the exit wound. I’ll be going to the compact model from now on so they fit better in my iFak, but I’m sticking with the Hyfin brand!

    Very cool

With what’s going on in todays world, something like this could save someones life. I doubt many people even know what these are but they really should. IMO a very important piece to have in your kit. The only issue is that these make it difficult to build a small trauma kit, I basically built my little pack around these guys as they were the biggest item. I went with a chinook operators pouch and they fit perfectly inside along with the rest of my items.

Hope i never have to use this, but if i do, i will trust them.

After watching the video on how these work via the NA Rescue website i decided to order these. I carry these with my IFAK that goes to the range and woods with me. I’m not new to first aid, being first responder certified. I hope I never have to use these, but I will also be teaching my kids how to use this. Watching enough youtube videos and using some common sense, it makes perfect sense that if you are in a place that accidents or mishaps can happen, you should be prepared to handle those situations and insure those around you know how to deal with the situation as well.

    They Work Nuff said

Been there done that kinda guy, Military, Police, SWAT Sniper, seen bad things that happen when objects flying at extreme velocities put holes in human chests. These WORK and are extremely user friendly. I bought these for a range/bugout bag. Couple of SWAT-T’s, Gen 7 CAT tourniquets and these with quick clot gauze. Same as the “Stop Bleed” kits in my cruiser. Again they are User friendly, cop proof, private proof, whatever term you use, they work!

Can not be folded. Large footprint.

The five stars I have given here is tentative and subject to change. I purchased it for my trauma kit which I carry in my car. I would have preferred a smaller footprint so that the seal could be carried in a belt pouch. For this purpose, the Halo seal is better. I don’t think that you need to cover a huge area in the case of a gunshot sucking chest wound. Perhaps duct tape and a plastic lunch bag would be better in a pinch. Please note: I have not had an occasion to use this seal. My review is based solely on the packaging at this time.

But in case of emergency it’s good to know I have it and can potentially save a life. I am an avid shooter and carry it in my range bag with my other first aid/ emergency gear.

A must have for trauma kit

I keep in first aid. A must have if serious outdoorsman. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

    Could be a life saver…

Bought for insurance purposes only. Hope I never have to have them applied to me or anyone else, but if for some reason we need them we have them. We hunt, fish, camp and accidents do happen. I have no formal medical training but I am trying to build a more comprehensive first aid bag, picking off this and that as I understand what it’s intended use is. I think we tend to spend too much time and money on the things that are fun and not enough of either on the things that may just SAVE someone’s life.
